Ready Mades, Archpoints
The gallery of Agias Filotheis is a “hidden” space in the wider urban area of Plaka. Inside the “stoà” architectural shell, different activities belonging to different fields daily across each other, establishing the connections that link together this semi-public space. Our proposal wants to display the intimacy of the multi-faced stoà spaces, exhibiting a choosen object from each store and gallery workshop, giving them a new “out of context” use.
The purpose of the proposal is to activate the stoà as a small temporary public space through small gestures, re-organizing the usual layout, creating the conditions under which the hidden “objects” will emerge on the surface. The gallery, thanks to the Urban pixels initiative organized by Archpoints, becomes a place to experience, wander, perceive.
The Ready-Mades of Marcel Duchamp were ordinary manufactured objects that the artist selected and modified, as an antidote to what he called “retinal art”. By simply choosing the object (or objects) and re-positioning or joining, titling and signing it, the Found object became art. Nearly one hundred years after Marcel Duchamp’s movement, with a reverse interpretation of this movement, we turn the meaning of the objects that indicate the manual labor they are involved in, emphasizing the practices of small production sites, manual labor, handcraft and at the same time the use of new technologies.
